WHAT’S STOPPING YOU?
Entrepreneurial Fear

Research shows that 1/3 of all Americans are more afraid of starting their own business than they are of jumping out of an airplane. This has a lot to do with the fact that business startups have gone down by 65% since the 1980s. Our economy is greatly affected by this. We can begin with being optimistic. Optimism is the fuel for success. Don’t be afraid to be positive. I know you’re interested in business or money making projects, so let’s delve into the fears.

1. You’re Afraid That You’re Not an Expert

You don’t have to know everything before you begin your business journey. Anything you don’t know, you can study, research and learn about. We have a wealth of information right at our fingertips. You’ll find many people who have a similar business are happy to share their knowledge with you as long as you’re not direct competition. Don’t be afraid to ask for their advice.

2. You’re Afraid You Won’t Earn Enough Money

This is a justified fear. If this is what’s holding you back, you may want to start your business venture as a side job at first. By researching your business, you should be able to closely estimate how much money you can earn.

3. Fear of Failure

We’re all afraid to fail. Don’t think of your mistakes as failures, but as lessons of “what not to do”. In business, you will definitely make some mistakes, but usually they don’t mean the demise of the business as a whole. What if your whole business DOES fail? Many successful people had businesses that failed to begin with. They didn’t give up. They kept trying. “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” This attitude is sadly lacking in our society today.

4. Fear That You Can’t Handle a Successful Business

This fear usually comes along a little later in business. Let’s look at this in a different way: If you’re making a lot of money and are too busy to handle everything, hire people to help you out! Huge businesses are not run by one person. You can hire a financial advisor, etc.

5. Afraid of Competition

The best way to deal with competition is to have a qood quality product or service. Sell the product or service at a reasonable price. If the quality of your product or service is better than others, you can sell for more. Give your customers or clients excellent customer service. Today this has a huge, huge effect on your success. Always be fair and honest in business. What you put out will come back to you. Also, that way you’ll be able to sleep at night. If you do business using these practices, you don’t need to fear the competition…the competition needs to fear YOU!

6. Uncertainty

I can’t think of very many things in this life that are certain. We can’t see the future. You can lessen this fear by doing research and learning everything you can about the business you plan to start. The more prepared you are, the less afraid of uncertainty you’ll be. Ask yourself these questions: “What is the worst thing that could happen if I start this business?” “Can I survive through the worst case scenario?” “Is that a risk I’m willing to take?” Having a plan can also help with uncertainty. I believe in having a “Plan A”, “Plan B” and sometimes a “Plan C”. That way if one plan doesn’t work out, you can fall back on the other plan.

7. Not Knowing Where to Start
